NoTick
NoTick is a performance mod built for large modded servers.
It cuts background lag by stopping distant entities from ticking when no players are close enough for that ticking to matter. Instead of wasting server time simulating mobs, items, and other entities in far-away unloaded gameplay spaces, NoTick keeps that budget available for the parts of the world players are actually using.
The goal is simple: lower entity overhead, protect important areas, and give server admins real control.
What It Does
NoTick reduces unnecessary entity ticking in distant areas while keeping important gameplay safer through built-in protections.
By default, the mod is designed around practical multiplayer use:
- players always keep normal behavior
- important entity types can be whitelisted
- claimed areas can stay fully active
- recently used/base-like chunks can stay protected
- raids and other sensitive cases can be handled separately
This makes NoTick useful for real servers, not just synthetic benchmarks.
Why Use It
- Improves performance in high-entity worlds
- Reduces background simulation cost in areas nobody is using
- Helps large modpacks stay smoother under load
- Protects important chunks through claims and activity safeguards
- Gives admins direct visibility and control with built-in commands
- Works without requiring extra dependency mods
Features
- Distance-based entity tick optimization
- Configurable horizontal and vertical tick ranges
- Optional dropped-item optimization with configurable distant tick chance
- Entity and mod ID whitelists
- Raid-aware ticking controls
- Dimension whitelist support
- Active chunk protection for recently visited or base-like areas
- Optional FTB Chunks integration
- Optional Open Parties and Claims (OPAC) integration
- In-game admin diagnostics and config reload commands
- No mandatory external dependencies
Admin Commands
All commands require operator/admin permissions.

Best Use Cases
NoTick is especially useful for:
- large modded survival servers
- busy SMPs with lots of bases and farms
- kitchensink modpacks with heavy passive entity load
- servers where distant mob and item ticking creates constant background cost
If your server struggles because too much of the world is simulating at once, NoTick is aimed directly at that problem.
Compatibility
NoTick works on its own, but it gets even better with claim mods.
If FTB Chunks or OPAC is installed, claimed chunks can be treated as protected areas so farms, automation zones, and bases are less likely to be affected by distance-based optimization.
This fork is maintained with modpack compatibility in mind and removes the older hard dependency requirements.
Important Note
NoTick is intentionally performance-focused.
If you rely on far-away, unclaimed farms or contraptions running continuously, you should protect those areas with chunk claims, active chunk safeguards, or config whitelists.
